A vacancy exists in the Environmental Defender's Office partnering with Legal Aid ACT.

The Environmental Defenders' Office in the ACT (EDO ACT) assists members of the community who want to protect the environment through law. EDO is an independent community legal centre specialising in public interest environmental law. The EDO's core functions are: legal advice and litigation; policy and law reform; and public engagement and education.

The Legal Aid ACT Helpdesk is the first point of contact for the provision of legal information and advice to people contacting the Commission either by telephone or in person. The Helpdesk provides a triage service to ensure those queries are dealt with quickly and effectively. The Helpdesk assesses the needs of the person and where appropriate give legal information, some limited procedural assistance or referral to other agencies. The three main practice areas are criminal law, family law and the general practice comprising civil, domestic violence, mental health and the helpline.

You will need to be eligible to hold a Practicing Certificate in the ACT.

The successful applicant will be employed by the EDO with placement arrangements in Legal Aid ACT.
