Legal Aid ACT lawyers attend every ACT public college toLawyers in Colleges Program 2022 provide college students with free and confidential advice, assistance and information. 

Confidential means we do not take any action without your consent first, will not share any information you discuss with us without your permission. This includes school staff, government services or your parents. You do not need permission from your parents, or anyone else to speak to us. 

 

How we can help you

  • Give you general legal information so that you understand your rights and responsibilities.
  • Give you advice about specific legal issues so that you know your options and the best steps forward.
  • Help you by negotiating, drafting letters or preparing for court.
  • Attend mediations and court with you.
  • Connect you to non-legal community and support services.

We help students with issues like:

  • Your rights at work.
  • Personal safety.
  • Discrimination.
  • Sex and consent. 
  • Scams and debts.
  • Car accidents and traffic issues.
  • Cyberbullying.
  • Tenancy.
  • Issues with police including reporting crimes to the police.
