Get legal help
The Youth Law Centre is Legal Aid ACT’s specialist service for young people.
A young person is someone under 25 years.
The Youth Law Centre is a free and confidential legal service. This means we will not do anything without your consent, and we won’t tell anyone you contacted us. We are not mandatory reporters.
What we help with
We can help with legal problems including:
cyberbullying, such as someone pretending to be you on social media
discrimination, including when someone treats you differently because of your gender, age, sex, race, or religion
fines
your personal safety, including applying for a personal protection order or a family violence order
driving and car accidents
understanding what your rights with the police are and how to communicate with the police
scams and debt, including if people owe you money, or if you haven’t received a product you paid for
sex and consent, such as people sharing intimate images of you without your consent
tenancy, including if you’re having renting issues in a share house or student accommodation
work rights, including if you’ve been unfairly dismissed or underpaid.
We can help by:
giving legal advice on your specific situation
representing you when communicating with your school or other organisations
drafting a letter of demand
referring you to other services.
We’re here to help. Even if you’re not sure if your situation is a legal one, please contact us for a chat. It is free to seek our advice, and if we can’t help you, we can refer you to other services that may be able to assist.
